History
Born in Windhoek, Namibia, a former German colony, where his parents had a farm and his grandfather was a soldier for the Kaiser who occupied the colony. At the age of four he came back to Germany.
In 1983 recorded 'Amok' and in 1984 the legendary 'Double Album'. Inspired by jungle drums, German marchmusic and the famous Austrian artist Otto Mühl (a 'happening maker' in the 60ies). Releases in the UK, USA, Canada, Germany, Spain. 'Amok' got into the American dance charts peaking at number 3. The 12" records 'Let yourself go' and 'Do the boogaloo' also entered the American dance charts. Big articles in magazines all over the world followed such as: Stern, Billboard and NME who labeled Ledernacken's music as 'Sexbeat Humour'. The cover of 'Amok' got into the book of record covers. The video of 'Amok' was voted video of the year in Canada. Director of all Ledernacken videos in the eighties was Derek Burbidge, an English filmmaker. The cover of the legendary 'Double Album' featured artwork of the English painter Chris Morton. There was a numbered limited edition of 2000 albums with each cover painted differently by Morton himself. Ledernacken and Band did some legendary shows all over Germany, always with a refrigerator on stage containing the drinks for Ledernacken. Sometimes the band got so drunk that they stopped playing.
All this enabled Ledernacken to build his own 24-Track studio in St.Pauli, Hamburg, where he recorded famous German indie acts like Geisterfahrer, Andy Giorbino, FSK, Kastrierte Philosophen , SS Ultrabrutal or Tilman Rossmy (famous former frontman of 'Die Regierung'). Took a pause of 5 years after the recording of 'L' in 1994 where he travelled the world, visiting the Betty Ford Clinic and raising Mr. Ledernacken jr. He was forced by original founding member Hayo Panarinfo to enter the studios again. The result is the nearly completed mega-album 'Bangkok'. Planning to be back on the road somewhere in the near future backed by an english punk band.
